Tommy Johnson - Striker
|
Joined Villa in a 3 million deal with Gary Charles from Derby where he was top scorer with nine goals. He made his league debut for Notts County in the 1988-89 season. He was Notts County's leading scorer for the three successive seasons in which the club rise from Third Division to the top flight. Derby bought him for 1.3 million in March 1992. He opened his scoring account for Villa with a hat-trick at home in their 7-1 victory over Wimbledon. In the 96-97 season, he opened Villa's scoring spree with what would sadly be the only goal in Villa's 2-1 loss at Sheffield Wednesday, the first match of the season. All this said, during his entire Villa career he found it hard to qualify for the first team. In the spring of 1997, Brian Little decided he was expendable, and he want to Celtic, Scotland for £2.4 million.
Apperances has substitutions in brackets, i.e. the games when he came on as a sub and didn't start on the pitch. All the stats include cup games.
