Dean Saunders - Striker
|
Signed with Villa from Liverpool for £2.5 million, Saunders never had much success at Anfield. However, he soon started to annoy the hell out of the Liverpool coach at that time, Graeme Souness, by hitting the back of the net time and time again dressed in claret and blue. This was enhanced when Liverpool came to Villa Park the same season, as Saunders put two past Grobellaar.
He was a very talented forward, who in the later years missed someone to work with up front. Dalian 'Sicknote' Atkinson was extremely talented but also too lazy and Tommy Johnson was too young and inexperienced. Saunders earned Welsh caps by the truckload, scoring frequently for his national side.
He left for Turkish side Galatasaray for the fee of £2.35 million in the
summer of 1995. Way before that time he had already made himself a Villa legend.
