David Ginola - Midfielder
|
There's little doubt about the immense talent of this flamboyant Frenchman. In fact, some fans regarded him as the best player on the team, which would have justified his pay checque, rumoured to be in the vicinity of 40 grand per week. The inspiration he provided for the rest of the team was exceptional, and on his day, he's one of the few players in England who makes the price of admission worthwhile. However, other fans think he's rather lazy and only spontaneously showed glimpses of his great talent.
David Ginola arrived at Villa Park in the Summer of 2000, and instantly became a hero with the Villans, as his immense talent was well known in advance. His first season with Aston Villa, however, was so-so. He scored three goals and gained 6 assists. Still, rumours about Gregory's unhappiness with the midfielder already began to surface around New Year. At the end of the season, he and Gregory weren't in total disagreement about how things are to be run at Villa Park.
Much worse was to come, however. In the 2001/02 pre-season, Gregory accused him of laziness and owerweight. "All the players are fit as a buthcer's dog. As for Ginola, it depends on which butcher you shop at". Not very nice, and things have never really calmed down since. Ginola has had next to no time on the pitch, and he has threatened to sue the club for various allegations made by Gregory over time.
January 2002 saw Gregory make it official: Ginola's contract will not be renegotiated when it expires next summer. David started looking for other employers in the Premier League, and on February 8th, he signed for Everton.
He has his own website as well: www.ginola14.com.
