Lee Hendrie - Midfielder
|
Hendrie used to be one of the stars on the youth team. When Graham Fenton left for Blackburn, he took over his #15 shirt on the first team. He debuted in his second match on the bench, as he came on after 34 minutes for Mark Draper against Queens Park Rangers. He performed quite well, but was sent for second bookable offence in the last minute of the match. Since then, however, he has been a frequent sight at the Villa bench, and with the 97-98 season underway, he looks very certain to become a regular on the pitch as well. The guy's talent is unquestionable.
As for his personality, rumours aren't kind to him. He's quite an arrogant lad when he goes out, and is frequently involved in brawls. Due to his 1.75m (5'9") of height and skinny stature, he is mostly pommelled. That is when his girlfriend doesn't manage to settle matters without the use of fists. He is rumoured to have said on numerous occasions : "Do you know who I am?". Some peeps don't care who he is, apparently. Also, the word on the mailing list now is that he was caught small-time stealing from Villa Park recently. Please notice that these rumours can't be confirmed anywhere, except for a single brawl involving some juiced up Birmingham City supporters in 1997.
In the first half of the 1997-98 season, we began to see Hendrie coming on as a sub on a few occasions. Right into the new year of 1998, the midfield got hit by injuries, and Lee eventually got his first start on the pitch. This has lead to more, and fewer and fewer fans doubt his future as Villa Park, as his agility, speed and talent is for all to see.
Today, Lee Hendrie is a regular first team player and has proven that he's a very skilled offensive midfielder.
