At Villa park since 1977 he is probably best remembered for his second full team appearance as substitute for Jimmy Rimmer in the 1982 European Cup final. He played a large part in the victory that day. From then on, he took over as Villa's first goalie, and he was Villa's first choise all throughout the 1980s. Among his greatest moments was winning the championship with Villa in 1981. He came close to his 500th game for Villa - 480 apperances totally. He won his only senior England cap in 1983. Even though Mark Bosnich gradually took over as first goalie for Villa in the 93-94 season, he was still on the bench despite his age right until he left. No matter what happens from now on, he is for certain a Villa legend, and when his career ends some day, all Villa fans will honour him for sure. He left Villa for West Bromwich in a free transfer on January 2nd, 1996, after spending 19 years at Villa Park.
