Des Bremner was a tireless, attacking midfielder who preferred to play on the right. brother of Kevin, Bremner was born at Aberchirder, Banffshire on September 7 1952. After leaving school he played for Banks 'o Dee 'A' and Deverondale FC (Highland League) and joined Hibernian in 1971, turning professional in November the following year. With Hibernian he appeared in 255 first-team matches (22 goals) between 1972 and September 1979, when he joined Villa for £250.000 with Joe Ward moving to Easter Road. Bremner won his only Scottish cap as substitute for Kenny Dalglish v Switzerland in 1976, played in nine Under-23 internationals and represented the Scottish League. He won runners-up medals in the Scottish League Cup in 1975 and the Scottish Cup Final of 1979. He settled into Villa's side almist immediately, and was a key member of of their 1980-81 Championship-winning team, playing a vital role when the European Cup and Super Cups were won the following year. He played for for Villa in the World Club championship against Penarol Montevideo in 1982. Bremner moved to St. Andrews in October 1984, teaming up with former team-mates Mark Jones, Robert Hopkins and Tony Reed, as well as his former manager Ron Saunders. With Blues, he helped win promotion from the Second Division. He later served Fulham, Walsall and Stafford Rangers, retiring in 1991.
