Arguably the most boring mission in the game. Grab any taxi and pick up
passengers. It's excellent for getting to know the city, but other than
that, it's just plain boring, and the worst thing is that you need 100
fares to complete the mission. You can split these up as much as you please,
so the "Fares" meter isn't necessarily what determines when
you've done 100. You need to go to the stats page and see how many people
you've dropped off.
Reward: After 100 fares, all taxis can now jump.
There are two ways of doing this: by car or by Hunter (the gunship). Doing
it by car has three major drawbacks: 1. The police / FBI / army can catch
you much easier than they can in the air. 2. You have to follow the road
at all times. 3. You need plenty of ammo if you wanna make good money
on a Vigilante run. If you want to do it by car, I highly recommend going
to the police station in Little Havana and get in the Cheetah that's parked
around back. It's much better than a regular police car.
However, I highly recommend doing the Vigilante mission in the Hunter.
For this, you'll need to pick up all 100 hidden packages or complete the
"Keep your friends together" mission. Each one will give you
a Hunter inside the Army Barracks (Remember that you can only enter the
army barracks safely if you're in a police uniform). Completing both missions
will give you a Hunter in the Army Barracks and one at the helipad at
the Southern tip of Ocean Beach. The Hunter has several advantages: 1.
It's much more fun to hunt criminals by helicopter. 2. Unlimited rockets
and machine gun ammo. 3. Who needs roads? 4. The Hunter repairs itself
100% every time you advance a level. 5. The police / FBI / army will find
it extremely difficult to catch you.
Flying the Hunter needs a lot of practice. Sorry, there's no easy way
to learn. You'll soon get the hang of missiles. The machine gun, however,
is auto-targeting and very handy if you got the criminals up close. However,
you'll have to get close to hit anything, and the Hunter is ridiculously
vulnerable to bullet weapons, so be careful! Also, try to have mission
number 12 initiated inside the Airport. The thing is that all future levels
(which will go on and on until you drop!) two of the three cars will start
at the same place as it did in mission 12. Most of the time, the third
car will self-destruct one way or the other, and inside the Airport, the
police finds it hard to get in. Also, the amount of civilians you can
hit inside the airport is minimal.
If your timer rounds 99 minutes and resets to zero, don't worry about
the time running out on the next level. You still have the 99 minutes
you earned, and the counter will go back to 99 if you let it get below
zero.
Last but not least: the Vigilante mission is by far the quickest way to
earn some MAJOR bucks. Level 100 will grant you half a million alone!
Around level 400, you will have earned 999 million, and you can't earn
any more money in the game.
Reward: After level 12, your armour can reach 150 instead of 100.
This is much more difficult than it would seem. Get into an ambulance,
and start picking up patients. Do this 12 levels in a row and you'll be
able to sprint without tiring. Level one has one patient, level two has
two and so forth. I can't tell you exactly how to pass this mission, since
there's no formula for success, but I can give you some general tips:
1. Always fill up your ambulance. Most of the time, delivering
a full ambulance to the hospital will yield a time bonus.
2. Never ever approach a patient at full speed. Always reduce your
speed a bit, and always break well in advance. If you stop too soon, there's
no harm done. If you stop too late, a lot of harm could be done!
3. Always apply your handbrake when using your normal brake for
stopping by a patient. Once your ambulance is stopped, you won't begin
moving backwards, if you have the handbrake applied.
4. There's ALWAYS enough time. Unless you're utterly hopeless behind
the wheel, time should be of little concern to you. Besides, it will be
reset every time you advance a level. If you drive too fast to shave off
a second or two, chances are that you'll roll over your ambulance at one
time or other. Rermember that completing the Paramedic Mission .
5. Rain isn't your friend. Reduce speed whatever you're doing if
it's raining. Also, remember that the roads will still be slippery a little
after a rain shower.
6. Lack of concentration is your worst enemy. Never allow yourself
to completely drift away. If you do, pause the game, get out your chair
and do a few laps in your house/apartment.
7. Always look on your map when starting another level or even
run. This way you can plot your route while the clock is stopped. Obviously,
you should do the most economical route at all times, but if a shortcut
is a little too packed with obstacles or dangerous curves, pick the safer
route! As mentioned above, time should be of little concern to you.
8. If you hit something, do not despair. Concentrate on the next
corner or obstacle ahead, and stop whining about something you can't do
anything about. Besides, the ambulance is VERY durable, so unless you
really drive stock car style, you won't smash up your ambulance before
the 12 levels are completed. This said, of course you should be careful
about how you treat your ambulance.
9. Some people prefer the siren on, some don't. I for one prefer
to have it on, even though the sound very soon gets a little tedious.
Remember that using the horn-button will switch your siren to a higher
pitch, and this will make cars hear you from a greater distance. That
way you can figure out what the other cars will do sooner. You needn't
have your siren on for the patients to get in.
10. You needn't wait for your passagers to get all the way in.
As soon as they have opened the door, step on it! Don't worry, they always
manage to get in.
11. The most important rule: Never EVER approach a patient
head on. When your ambulance is close to a patient he/she will run towards
your ambulance, and keep doing so provided you don't drive too far away.
Therefore, always keep to the left or right of the patient. If you overshoot
while braking, you won't run over the patient and he/she will automatically
run up to your ambulance.
Reward: After level 12, you will never get tired regardless of
how long you sprint.
The annoying thing here is that people run away from you once you've extinguished
their car. Ridiculous and not too prudent, one would say. Most of the
time, the last car of the bunch will also try to drive away once you've
extinguished the other car(s) in the accident. I therefore have the following
tips for you:
1. Park your fire truck so that one (or more) cars can't get away easily.
2. Always extinguish one car at a time. Then take care of the people that
get out and run away. The other cars in the crash will not move on, unless
it's the last one.
3. If the cars on fire are "parked" inconveniently for you,
slam into one or more of them in order to scatter the wrecks a little
more. The cars are on fire anyway, and your fire truck can really take
the rough stuff!
4. It's always easier for you to turn your water turret than to turn your
fire truck! You can even elevate or lower it, if necessary.
5. Never switch your attention to someone (or something) else before your
current target is put out.
6. Knocking people over with the water beam is very handy, so try to do
this at all times. Sometimes, this is more easily done by sweeping your
water beam accross the groung rather than just keep spraying in the same
direction.
Reward: After level 12, you're completely fireproof (very handy
when doing molotov cocktail rampages).
To knock over a store, get close to the clerk and aim at him with any
bullet weapon (I use the sniper rifle). Running into the store with your
weapon drawn will soon trigger the alarm, so run in there with your weapons
concealed and only pull your rifle out when you're in position in front
of the clerk. There's no reward for robbing all 15 stores. Use the Robberies
Map to aid you in your quest.
Reward: No reward awarded for completing all 35.
Have a vehicle with you. Once you've mowed down everything in sight, it'll
take a little for the gang members to regenerate, and waiting for the
paramedics to revive those you've already done in is a little too slow
for my taste. Gang members pop up everywhere you go, so once everybody
in sight are down, get into the vehicle and drive a 100 yards or so down
a road. If no gangmembers are in sight by now, spin around 180, and there's
bound to be baddies somewhere. Also, have the "Shooter" side
mission (not the same as "Shootist"!) completed, so that you
can load your weapons more quickly. Use the Rampages
Map to assist you. The rampages can be divided into weapon types used:
Mini gun: Keep your distance from your targets. Other than that,
this should be pretty easy.
Regular shotgun: The thing here is that people need to be shot twice
to die, so get as many as they're down. Be sure to shoot people on the
way over to you.
S.P.A.S 12 shotgun: This one is a beauty, because you drop people
with one shot, and it can fire continously without needing to be reloaded.
Shouldn't be much of a problem completing these.
Katana (Samurai sword): This is by far the most difficult rampages.
Basically, try not to attack groups of more than 4 members tops. Also,
your initial attack should be done from two or three steps away. The only
leathal swipes are when Tommy runs them through or cuts their heads off,
and the latter is quite difficult, so try to learn the distance to your
targets that will make Tommy run them through. Keep some two steps distance
- never use the sword standing right in front of your target.
Flame Thrower: Gain a little distance from your vehicle when using
the weapon, or it will catch fire. Remember that you can sweep the flame
in order to hit as many as possible. As soon as they're done, get into
the vehicle and find another group, since this is a heavy weapon!
Sub-machine guns: Again, keep your distance. Rampage 25 is an extremely
weak gun (I believe it's names the Tech 60), so take advantage of the
fact that you can run while firing.
Assault rifles: With these rifles, you can hit people at any distance,
so always plug the nearest ones first.
Bazooka: Distance is more than essential here. Keep at least ten
steps away from any vehicle you shoot at, and if gangsters or cops get
too close to you, chances are that you'll blow yourself up too, so have
no cops or gang members nearby when you fire at vehicles.
Molotov cocktail: have the Fire truck Mission completed before
doing these. Then it should be a doddle: sSimply engulf everything that
opposes you in flames, and say something Clint Eastwoodish when they scream
in agony.
Hand Grenades: Never throw grenades at targets that aren't far
away from you. Chances are that you'll throw it a little too short and
get injured from the explosion yourself. Always keep a good distance and
use your vehicle to generate more gang members once the ones in sight
are blown up.
Heavy machine gun: This one is a beauty. One shot will take out
anyone at any distance, so this really should present no problem for you.
Run-over rampages: Grab a BIG and fast car, preferably the FBI
rancher, Gang Burrito or 4WD from Sunshine Autos. Also, remember that
gang members are generated everywhere you go, so keep to the straight
pieces of sidewalks. That way you can also gain good speed.
Drive-by rampages: If you have trouble doing this from a car, get
on a PCJ 600. That way you can also fire forward. Never slow down completely,
since the cops can bust you that way.
.357 six shooter: Here you'll learn to appreciate having completed
the "Shooter" mission more than anywhere else. Essential thing:
ALWAYS TAKE AIM before firing at someone. This gun fires very slowly,
so if you miss too many people, they can get to you and start using your
head for boxing practice.
Sniper rifles: Having completed the "Shooter" mission
is very handy here too, since you reaload much more quickly. Other than
that, try to blow their head off. That way, paramedics will not try to
revive them, and new gang members will be generated more quickly.
Chainsaw: A vechicle is absolutely essential here. Once you've
sawn the people in half, get into your vehicle immediately, and use it
to drive up to the next set of gangsters. To saw them to death more efficiently,
keep the button pressed and run into the group.
One more thing: rampage 1 and 33 are easier if you get into your
helicopter immediately and fly to where the road splits up right next
to the super tanker in Eastern Vice Port. Here you'll get plenty of vehicles
to shoot at.
Reward: No reward awarded for completing all 35.
Wait until you have a helicopter (when the Western part of town is available).
Go to the Hyman Condo or the Downtown Police Station and grab a helicopter.
Use the Hidden Packages
Map to assist you in locating all 100. Save your game when you get
near one of your safehouses or businesses, since having to redo the hidden
packages again is very tiresome. Pick up the items as they're numbered,
otherwise you will lose count at one time or other. Read the descriptions
on the map if you have trouble locating an item, and if you still can't
find it, go ahead and e-mail
me.
Reward: A Hunter is now available either at the Army Base, or at
the Helipad on the very South edge of Ocean Beach if the Army base "slot"
is already occupied. Also, there are rewards to be reaped with every ten
packages found:
10: Body armor at selected safehouses
20: Chainsaw at selected safehouses
30: Python (.357 caliber six-shooter) at selected safehouses
40: Flamethrower at selected safehouses
50: Laser scope sniper rifle at selected safehouses
60: Mini gun (Gatling) at selected safehouses
70: Rocket Launcher at selected safehouses
80: Sea Sparrow at Vercetti Estate
90: Rhino (tank) at the Army Barracks
100: Hunter (gunship) at the Army Barracks
Use the Stunt Jumps Map
and the Stunt Jumps Walkthrough to assist
you. I HIGHLY recommend that you do the jumps as they're numbered, because
that way you can see how many jumps you've completed. Here are seven things
worth remembering when you want to do jumps:
- Never ride anything but a PCJ 600 motorcycle.
- Before accelerating towards the jump, hold your hand brake a little
and then release it. This will give you a slight speed burst.
- Unless you're going at full speed (or close to it) you should do a
wheelie when you're about to hit the ramp. This will increase your jump
length significantly.
- Always land tilted slightly backwards, i.e. on your rear wheel. This
will decrease damage to your bike when you hit the ground.
- If you hit the ground and do not have your bike completely aligned
with the direction of the jump, you might be able to prevent falling
over when you hit the ground if you apply the brakes and turn the same
way your bike is turned when hitting the ground. In this case, do not
land tilted backwards but try to land on both wheels at the same time.
- Revving your engine while in flight will NOT increase the length of
your jump at all, so you may as well not bother.
- If your bike starts smoking, get it repaired or get another one ASAP.
No, there aren't any exceptions!
Reward: No reward awarded for completing all 36.
Well, here you certainly learn to do a drive-by. Contrary to the Paramedic
Mission, time here is not your friend, and if you miss too many customers,
you will get in trouble. Therfore, make sure you hit your customer. Plain
and simple. Two things are worth remembering here: slow down significantly,
when you're about to drive-by a customer, and make sure there aren't any
obstacles between you and the customer. A lot of them deliberately stand
right next to a light post, and here you should park on the pavement before
throwing the pizza instead of throwing it from the street. On mission
7 to 10, you'll need to go back to the shop to reload your pizza supply,
since your moped can only hold six pizzas. Simply come to a standstill
near the desk where you start your mission, and immediately speed away
again. Obviously, you should try to do this reloading as practically as
possible, e.g. if you have four deliveries to the South and five to the
North, do the four Southern ones, return to the shop to reload and then
do the five to the North.
Reward: After level 12, your health can reach 150 instead of 100.
